Embarrassing Negro Moment
June 26, 2007 by Marc Lamont Hill

Today’s Embarrassing Negro Moment goes to everyone involved in the latest Foxy Brown controversy. Based on news reports and my own sources in New York, here’s the story:
Foxy went to the Pink Houses (a well-known housing project in East New York) to break up with her latest boyfriend. Why? Because she found out that he was a pimp (not a player, but a real life pimp) with a criminal record. Apparently, her boyfriend was not please with the decision and called up three of his “girls” (presumably prostitutes) to beat up up Foxy. After catching up to Foxy, the girls beat her down, ripped out her weave, and stole her Louis Vuitton purse, credit cards, cash, and Brown’s hearing aid (damn!). Soon after the beat down, Foxy rode around with police to help them find the assailants. The police arrested Roshawn Anthony, who Foxy Brown pointed out as the attacker, and sent her to Rikers Island in lieu of bail. The day after the attack, Foxy Brown denies cooperating with the police and says that she was never attacked.
WTF???
Although many people hate Foxy Brown, I hope that we do not find joy or humor in her latest circumstance. Finding out that you’re significant other is a pimp must be devastating. More importantly, no one deserves to be the recipient of public humiliation and unprovoked violence, no matter what we think about them.
While this hasn’t been said publicly, I’m inclined to think that Foxy changed her story to avoid looking like a “punk” or a “snitch” within the rap community. After all, her arch-enemy Lil Kim went to prison for a year to avoid snitching in a shooting. How could she “punk out” over a little old street fight? It’s retarded logic like this that undermines legitimate anti-snitching arguments.

Hmmm . . . three people beat her up, going to the police was the right call. There’s nothing to debate.

no debate from me garrett, but it’s always more complicated in other places…

LOL! Right, she may not have been paying attention to all of the clues he was leaving. This is where snooping in your significant other’s belongings may have been justifiable.

((Adding to DC’s comment)) …and you know it’s a wrap (pardon the pun) for her because she makes headlines/stays in the public eye for all her drama rather than for her music. That seems to be the way of the world now…

When did reporting a crime against you become snitching? I thought snitching was telling on others for crimes you helped commit (for reduced sentences, money, etc)–not telling on those who committed crimes against you.

bertie, sad to say but the new ideology of snitching means anybody who speaks to the police about any crime, even if you are the victim such as the case with Foxy, is deemed a snitch
