Get Over Yourselves!

October 17, 2008 by Marc Lamont Hill

For the past few months, I have been using new spam detection software. Although it is highly effective, it has resulted in the accidental deletion of comments. In fact, some of my own have been blocked. Also, people connecting from PDAs (particularly Blackberrys) might receive a “BLOCKED” message.

Please understand that I am not blocking or deleting comments that challenge, insult, or otherwise disagree with me. I am not finding people’s IP addresses and surreptitiously banning them from the site.

As difficult as it may be to believe, I don’t spend the day sitting in front of my computer poring through blog posts in search of my next victim. It is a technical mistake!

So please stop sending me nasty, self-righteous, and self-important emails and text messages about free speech. It’s getting carried away.

It’s not that deep. And neither are you.

And yes, I’m having a bad day.

Marc, I went with a CAPTCHA solution for my blog. You should too. Eliminates bots, SPAM, etc. and even helps a good cause.

Gee, I step away from the Shop for a few days and drama ensues…

What did I miss? What went down? Whose comments got deleted? Who got banned? Who is sending Marc “nasty, self-righteous, and self-important emails and text messages about free speech”? LOL (text messages??? That’s why you can’t give out your number Marc!)

Honestly, if I was Marc, I’d ban certain comments and people from the site too! You’re not entitled to free speech on someone else’s personal blog.

BTW – If Marc hasn’t banned ME, I seriously doubt he intentionally banned anyone else!!!

PS – I’ll catch up on the other posts this weekend!

Dr. Hill,

Hope that you will have a great day! I certainly enjoy anytime I am fortunate to hear any of your speaking arrangements (i.e. Rev. Jackson’s show on Sunday “Keep Hope Alive,” WVON (1690AM), and National Hip Hop Political Convention 2008. Keep doing what you do how you do it:) We certainly need it.

Miracles and Blessings,

I get tired also with all of the trash and ridiculousness that I see splashed all over the internet. I’m quite sure that a lot of what is written anonymously, would never be spoken to ones face. Some people can be rude, callous and brazen when they beleive they can get away with it. They are probably mostly irrelavant in their own daily lives anyway. Have a great weekend Dr. Hill, despite all of the foolishness!
