It’s Our Anniversary
February 26, 2008 by Marc Lamont Hill
The Barbershop Notebooks is 2 years old!!!!!!!!
Can you believe that two years have passed since we opened up shop? It feels like just yesterday that I started posting random ideas on the website. Suddenly, we have grown into a vibrant cyber-community with thousands of daily readers and many brilliant contributors.
Since our last anniversary much has changed. Our readership has nearly double since last January. We’ve added another regular columnist and many regular features like “Just Jokes” and “Negro Please.” Most significantly, we played an important role in the struggle to free the Jena 6, Shaquanda Cotton, and Genarlow Wilson. Although we’ve had some setbacks, failures, and losses (R.I.P. Omo!!!!), we have done our best to remain organized, committed, and buoyant… And we’ve had a lot of fun doing it!
Although blogging is a very difficult task to perform on a daily basis, and I can’t promise how much longer I can do it, you all make the work a little more bearable. Your kind gestures, hilarious words, and brilliant insights have made me a better scholar, activist, and person. I thank our gods and our ancestors for you!
I pray that you will continue this ride with me!
In Struggle and Love,
MLH

Wow Doc, it really has been 2 years funny how time flies. I never expected that your site would become a regular destination for me after stumbling over here in February ‘06 but that’s definitely what it’s become. I don’t always agree with you and don’t always post replies but it’s definitely been an interesting and fun 2 years. Now what’s up with that Barbershop TV show??

Thanx for making these mornings at work bearable, and allowing for those of us who are not in the know, to be in the know, if you know what I mean. Great work doctor keep it up.

I felt that if I attacked you we would be more like other blogs. It was a joke. Apparently not a very good one. LOL

Dr. Hill, I like your focused restlessness.
When you invited me to visit your site and perhaps comment I was hesitant, not shy, but hesitant, like that rose not willing to bloom with thoughtful expression here but I made an attempt to give my opinion on various topics. Thank you Dr. Hill. Congratulations to you and the other bloggers.
I’ve read your column on Metro, Blackprof and theroot as well, perhaps they should list your blog site to further increase readership over here, not that it’s necessary.

I just want to say (sniff*sniff*) thank you all for allowing this brother from the The Dee to get his daily indulgence of humor, culture, camraderie, information, and sometimes irritation from such a diverse but stimulating family of bloggers. I don’t know how the heck I stumbled up in this piece last year, but I’m glad I did. I look forward to it daily. I leave this blog and go back into the world regurgitating all that I absorb and it makes me look like such a well rounded and learned man of distinction. Thanks!
And not to mention that I met the woman of my dreams here, ChgoSista. Just gotta figure out how to ’splain it to the Mrs. Smiiiiiiiiiile

See I was going to let the tweed blazer slide but if someone brought it up it’s fair game. And just because it’s anniversary week around here doesn’t mean you can take 2 days off. Where’s the content? I need my fix baby?
