The BEST car i got back then was a ‘68 four-door Nova with a six cylinder engine…cwould fill the tank up for TEN BUCKS and it’d last almost a month…my uncle had a spankin’ brand new Datsun 280 Z at the time which was not only a chick magnet, but was QUICKER than the Camaro SS’s AND just as fuel efficient…and as the years rolled on, the gap got BIGGER!!!

My wife’s husband used to be a Mopar fiend…he only drives BMW’s now…Escalades look like they should have a Department of Corrections seal on the side door and you can drive Hummers for free in Iraq…the only place they organically fit into the scenery.

Today’s Mustangs and ‘vettes look better as Matchbox cars than what you see on the road–maybe IF Chrysler and GM rediscovers how to make a ‘63 Bel Air–a car which my mother drove for almost 20 years without so much even as a flat tire…THEN the US auto industry will rise again.

And maybe making cars in DETROIT & JERSEY instead of Mexico MIGHT revitalize American industry???
