OUTKAST- GREATEST GROUP OF ALL TIME

In a landslide victory over Public Enemy, the readers have selected Outkast as the Greatest Hip-Hop Group of All Time.

As a hip-hop head, I must say that I’m baffled that y’all picked ‘Kast over several groups that were considerably more worthy. No disrespect to Big Boi and Dre, who would certainly make my top-5 list, but I just don’t understand how they fit the previously established criteria better than Wu Tang Clan or NWA.

As far as skills go, Andre 3000 is without question one of the dopest MCs in the game. Big Boi, on the other hand, is nowhere near Dre’s caliber. He’s far from wack, but I could easily name 50 MCs (several of whom are members of Wu Tang Clan) who are better than him.

I don’t doubt Outkast’s originality or their longevity, but that merely puts them on par with Wu and slightly ahead of NWA in those categories.

Outkast’s impact on the culture, however, is debatable when compared to NWA and Wu. While they made considerable contributions to the development of Southern hip-hop, the other two groups actually changed the way people dressed, spoke, rapped, and lived.

My vote would have gone to Wu Tang Clan. Nevertheless, I respect your decision.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!CONGRATULATIONS OUTKAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
