This is BS!! But no one ever said (or proved) that the US Justice System is fair or righteous. It’s Just-Us!! He should have gotten a slap on the wrist and a fine (maybe 6 months in prison and a fine), but not 3 yrs. They want to break him and he is being made an example of. How many yrs did Martha Stewart get for her offense?

Its not about loving whether love him or not, it’s about justice. This is a misdemeanor crime he committed and he gets three years. Hell, you have child molesters or war criminals (bush and Cheney) who gets less time, if any.

The sentence IS a bit overboard, but I could go without seeing another Blade movie (or all his other C and D movies) for awhile.

Very seldom do people get probation in federal offenses….

I’m indifferent about his sentence. ((shrugging shoulders)) If I feel like I’m starting to “miss” his ass, I’ll just pop in my “New Jack City” or “Jungle Fever” DVD. Shit.

view it from the perspective of an incredibly wealthy, famous man who ended up still being subject to the same rules and regulations as the rest of us peons. i don’t think celebrities should get away with light sentences anymore than any other tax cheat, drunk driver, domestic abuser, child molester, murderer, perjuror or any other criminal should.
white collar crime of this nature, whether it be deciding you’re too good to have to pay taxes like everyone else or by bilking people out of their hard earned money, deserve the same repercussions as other crimes that hurt one’s fellow people.

timaree, thats cool in utopia, but the bottom line is that its still a misdemeanor and child molesting is a more serious offense in which individuals get less time. I don’t consider tax evasion as serious of a crime as drunk driving or domestic abuse. Apples and oranges.

I read a story on msnbc I believe that said before sentencing Wesley cut 3 checks to the court to pay the overdue $5 million he owed and the judge was so shocked he initially refused the money…..

See he showed an ability to pay…he should have done that in the first place…..

T.I. said he should have used his legal team!

Everyone knows he is a dark brother who prefers to date outside of his race is the real reason he was sentenced to three years.

gotta 2nd the notion of Regkam2, this is only an example of the system making an example out of Snipes. I honestly cannot believe this man actually tried to skip out on his taxes tho! so not only is he gonna be behind bars, he just gave up his stimulus check! priorities my black family, priorities!!

That’s funny, because on abc news this morning, they were saying the 5 million dollar check he submitted was just down payment of how much money he owes..

I can’t get worked up or even interested in Wesley Snipes’ sentence because
1) He’s guilty
2) He has more resources to defend himself then most people, black or white
3) I just don’t like him and what he says about black women(yeah I said it)

I thought the sentence was excessive, but, really…pay your motherfuckin’ taxes, just like the rest of us. Did he really think he was gonna get away with that? Stupidity. Stupidity. Stupidity. Maybe he’ll be sent to one of those cryogenic prisons. (Demolition Man reference. “Simon Phoenix.” Anybody…anybody…is this thing on?)

Zak, they didn’t respond to my #11, so DAMN your ‘Demolition Man’ reference! :-D

I think the US Judicial System is set up perfectly. It’s the idiotic, immoral, racist Judges (who have way too much power) and the win-at-all-cost, vain, racist Prosecution attorneys that are unjust and despicable, to say the least.

In comparison with Wesley’s white counterparts, he received the typical sentence. I really thought they would have slammed him with more time. Tax evasion is a serious federal crime in the US.

I consider this a win for Wes. I think the time fits the crime, considering he will never serve the whole 3 years anyway.

Damn Wesley just got New Jacked up! (thinly veiled New Jack City reference, I see you Chgo!)

Three years is a lot of time and I think if its fed time you do the entire bid, no 85% of the sentence provision at all. Plus he still owes only a fraction of the $5 mil he offered up, I hope for his sake he’s got a solid portfolio that can absorb this IRS hit considering 5 of his last 6 films went straight to video.

Guess it depends on where you are and what you do. The GOV doesn’t seem particularly understanding when you ain’t got their money, e.g.

2007.Carlsbad resident Garlon Patrick Ellis to fifteen years in prison and a $10,000 fine for attempting to evade his New Mexico Personal Income Taxes.

2007. Winston Shillingford, 44 was sentenced to 21 months before a District Court Judge in Brooklyn Federal Court on August 28, 2007 on tax evasion charges

2007. An investment banker who used his wife’s and children’s names in tax evasions was sentenced today to 50 months in prison for tax crimes, including the first criminal conviction for not paying the nanny tax.
