I follow the standard tip chart:
A service level = 20% tip
B service level = 15% tip
C level service = 10% tip

“i cant see the image either but something tells me he probably put cash in the waiters hands. at some restaurants waiters have to split their tips with the rest of the staff. if it was a pretty large tip and waiters make $2.17 an hour, would you split your big tip with 50 people? or pretend you got stiffed?”

I’ve actually done what some people have suggested might have happened here … paid my bill with a credit card but given my tip in cash directly to the waiter.

Usually it’s when someone has gone above and beyond and I want to personally thank them for their efforts.

But usually 20% is the very minimum I tip. I only eat at the same few places over and over (I’m brand loyal & like routine). So I have to tip really well b/c I’ll be right back the next day; and I like special treatment!

(On another tangent: I’ve experienced tipping drama like never before with a friend of a friend who “tipped” too much (money that is)!!! – That was a crazy night; I will never go out with him again!)

i was jokin…sort of. If they are slow with the refills, they get the standard ten percent for me..if they great, 20%, and if they are so rude that i have to complain..they get the clif special, a penny and a happy face on the receipt!! (and i never return of course)

I had my share of waiter jobs so I always tip unless the service is completely unbearable.

I can see if the service is purposely bad, maybe tipping 15%. But sometimes its gets busy, have some patience.

clifton, with that attitude, i wouldn’t risk going back to the same restaraunt ever again. liable to get something in your coffee that you really didn’t want. not to mention the permanent effects on your karma. incidentally, denny’s is the latest to join my list of no-gos.
