Second, this photo literally churns my stomach,and I hope the people who did it and let those disgusting P.O.S’s get away with it, rot in the eternal flames of Hell,as I’m sure they are now roasting as we speak. I sincerely hope. And I’m white.And I’m from GA,as southern as you can get.As for the white hag who started it all,she can rot in hell too.

Yesterday was the 55th year anniversary of Emmett’s death. He died 12 years before I was born. When I first heard his story I was appalled, horrified, and disgusted. As a 40 something white girl – what disturbs me now is the number of younger African Americans who do not know who Emmett was nor do they know the strength & courage that Mrs. Till had.

I’m also frustrated at some of the posters here who continue with the hate in their heart. My understanding is that the lady that Emmett whistled at simply shared the story with her husband. He and his cronies are the ones that should have been held to the wall. Maybe the lady shouldn’t have told her husband. I can only imagine that if that idiot treated Emmett as he did — he probably was also abusive to his wife. We just don’t know, do we. Maybe I’m wrong … maybe she insisted her husband “teach Emmett a lesson”. The whole story (while very important) is just appalling.

No one is any better than anyone else. We all make mistakes, we all love and we all hurt.

I don’t know anyone who was a slave or a slave holder. I’ve never known a time when blacks and whites weren’t segregated on some level. And we still have folks (both black & white) who keep using the “race card”. How I dream of a time when the color of someones skin means nothing more than the color of their eyes.

I’m tired of the disrespectful youth of our society. I’m tired of the bickering. I’m tired of the hate & fear. We need better education across the board.

my heart breaks that this beautiful child is not remembered today. I hold a master’s degree in history but only learned about Emmett within the past year. His story should be taught to middle-school or even elementary school children.

His mother handled the funeral in the best manner possible, by showing the world what the sickness of racism (which is utterly a social construct, man-made) can do.

I am a white, female southerner, and I will be the first to call Emmett’s accuser a bitch. White southerners need to check their DNA, btw. Anybody here before the Civil War is very, very likely tri-racial. Southerners are an amazing blend of people from around the world and we should stand together and love one another.

Gwendolyn Brooks wrote a great poem from the perspective of the white woman Emmett winked at..It’s called “A Bronzeville Mother Loiters in Mississippi. Meanwhile a Mississippi Mother Burns Bacon.”

I learned about Emmett Till in high school and in college and I started to cry while retelling his story in a class presentation. It was embarrassing and everything but I’m bringing this up because I’m white and I don’t think its particularly fair or helpful to generalize about white people being racist and uncaring and trying to cover up Emmett’s story. That is definitely the case sometimes but a lot of times it is not. My teacher in college who had us read Gwendolyn Brooks and other black poets was a white woman from the South.

I think God has a plan, he did not let this child suffer, in my heart I believe Emmitt was taken out of his body before he endured the pain we see upon his face. God plan was to show man who really are the evil people in this world for grown people to take a child and mutalate his body in such a manner is simply evil.

This is so crazy. A friend dared him to do it,and he didnt know any better. He was very handsome, and was killed for something so stupid. I hope the people who did it will rot in hell.

Its really sad when most of the whites dont believe or even want to hear about this young man. And the ones that usually dont care are the racist, AT HOW they add their own spin to it. makes me angry. Its still hate out there and it doesnt make any sense. We are all suffering and most of the (whites) what to blame the black because they dont have anything. They continue to make cracks about our NEW President. And I laugh at the facts that They think that they are perfect. And if they read thier history, Jail wasnt built for blacks at that time it was built for them. Blacks were slaves either they were whipped or they were lynched.
