Photo of the Day

Today’s photo of the day shows Arlen Specter, who officially announced that he’s switching parties. Of course, this “conversion” has everything to do with the shifting political demographics in Pennsylvania –largely attributable to the new wave of Obama-inspired Republican defectors– that placed Specter’s re-election bid in serious jeopardy. As such, I’m very worried about the political character of this soon-to-be Democratic super-majority. My hunch (and fear) is that the Democrats are simply moving further toward the center, rendering progressive voices even more marginal.

well in order to have one government, don’t you need one party? left wing, right wing, it’s all one bird…this comes as no surprise to me. it won’t be long before more of the GOP jumps ship….don’t fear doc, go with your hunch…

Senator Specter and the Democractic Party are moving to the center because that is where the country is. America is a right of center nation. Obama won because he campaigned as a leftist during the primaries, then moved to a more centrist position for the general election. That is called, smart politics. One note of history. Arlen Specter was a life long Democrat back in the 1960s when he first ran for political office.
