Photo of the Day

May 1, 2009 by Marc Lamont Hill

Today’s photo of the day is the “Sugar Shack,” painted by the legendary Ernie Barnes. Mr. Barnes passed away on Monday at the age of 70. May he rest in peace. (Shout out to Illseed at AllHipHop.com for letting us know!)

He was an American treasure.

I think most of us first saw his work on the opening of ‘Good Times’.

He also played cameo roles on the show–he always played one of “Sweet Daddy Williams’ ” bodyguards. ((OK–so what–I’m a “Good Times” enthusiast–sue me…)) :-)
