Quote of the Day
January 5, 2010 by Marc Lamont Hill
“For a used-to-be-slave woman to love anything that much was dangerous, especially if it was her children she had settled on to love. The best thing, he knew, was to love just a little bit; everything, just a little bit, so when they broke its back, or shoved it in a croaker sack, well, maybe you’d have a little love left over for the next one”

Just one of the many beautiful quotes in this book that highlight the themes of motherhood and the impact of slavery, not just over men and women that were slaves ;but over later generations as well. I love it! What a way to start a day…thinking about my community and it’s relation to my own identity, in today’s society. Its 2010 still we are talking about the effects of slavery on black men and women. Reason being these effects are still alive and present ,as Morrison made so clear. One day we shall all overcome, and our future will not be dictated by our past and the past of our people.
