Video of the Day

January 30, 2008 by Marc Lamont Hill

Today’s video of the day shows one of the most special and rare moments in music history. At a concert in 1980, James Brown brings Michael Jackson on the stage. After doing his thing for a minute, MJ asks JB to bring Prince on stage! This may be the only time that the three have been performing in the same place at the same time. (And yes, I’ll still take Prince over Michael Jackson any day of the week!)

This is vintage in as far as this is probably some of the last known footage of Mike when he was BLACK.

is it just me or does Lloyd look a lot like the 80’s Michael Jackson?
I dont know how you could take Prince over MJ. All he did was hump some old man’s guitar and scream in the mike. MJ sang and moonwalked all over the stage. There’s no comparison here.

Of all the hair on stage that night, James Brown’s was the most fierce.

**Ahem** For all that hate on Prince Rogers Nelson – that man is probably the reason why half of the world’s citizens age 10-20 were conceived! He is the quintessential musical ar-teest!

He definitely can get it!

I like ‘em both…They are like apples and oranges, both great…I wasn’t too thrilled when HPM (His Purple Majesty or is it The Artist Formally Known As…) went on his religious trip & I purposely missed that tour….But, in my book they are both tops, unequalled, unparalleled, top of the line…

And, I would say exactly the same about the late James Brown, unequalled, unparalled, top of the line….

Man, Prince messed this all up! He was a bonafide freak–hilarious! Don’t get me wrong, I love him. And I have to say that Prince does win over Michael in the longevity category. And maybe in the musical talent category too. As strange as Prince comes off in this clip, don’t forget that Prince’s freakiness never got him up on charges.
