Today’s video of the day comes from Springfield, IL, where Barack Obama and Joe Biden made their first appearance together as running mates. Thoughts on Biden’s speech?

The Biden pick reveals a lack of confidence within the Obama camp. All he brings is perceived gravitas, and after a weak summer in the polls, and a possibly shaky convention on hand this week, the man from Illinois is entering the final ten weeks of the campain on a weak note.
Had he chosen either Bayh of Indiana, or Tim Kaine of Virginia, it would have been a sign that Barack Obama was feeling strong enough to turn a red state blue; sadly, that is not the case.
Biden brings in Delaware’s three electoral votes, which the Dems had anyway, and picking Joe from Scranton, PA will put pressure on McCain to pull out his Pennsylvania trump card named Tom Ridge who would easily stand up to Biden in any VP debates.
However, if Obama/Biden are able to muzzle Billary, and have a GREAT convention, then they could come out of Denver with a 5 or 6 point bounce. We’ll have to see.
PS- Tanya? What evidence do you use to declare Joe Biden a racist?

I drove down to Springfield for the rally Saturday. I thought Biden’s speech was strong. He’s not afraid to mix it up and Obama tends not to because he doesn’t want to invoke the image of the angry black man and make people skittish. Biden will have no problem bringing passion to complement Obama’s sobriety.

Biden is pretty clean and articulate.
