Video of the Day
September 22, 2008 by Marc Lamont Hill
Today’s video of the day comes from Syracuse University Professor (and Barbershop regular) Boyce Watkins, who recently released his first rap single “When I Rise.” Following in the footsteps of Cornel West, Boyce will be releasing an album soon. Thoughts?

Should I quietly anticipate your first rap single or cd, Dr. Hill?
Your sparkling clear rapid speech enjoined with an intellectual grasp of historical/current events, your ear for the social outcrys of the ignored and a ghetto-speak and beat awareness should offer up a rap song hip-hop aficionados would gladly fold up a twenty like a paper airplane and send flying your way.
Is this even a remote possibility?
Oh, sorry, not feeling Boyce’s song…

Awww! Isn’t Boyce cute!?!?
(Why do all black men seeking fame think rap is the only avenue?)
I’m sure he’s planning on sending this right along with his petition for tenureship. (SMH)
Boyce seems like a good guy, but he’s just so damn extra! Chill out Prof. Watkins! Chill out!

Marc,
Why do I sense your, “(and Barbershop regular)” was a warning for comment censorship? Oh, well!

I was too harsh…I do appreciate Dr. Boyce Watkins sharing his “life story” with us through rap, a genre that surely would reach those he mostly desires to help/empower. I do appreciate the fact that he left out profanity (I think?) and “violence” overtures.

Ms Lisa, if you were too harsh, then what was i??? damn girl, you got me feeling bad now
ok ok Doc i change my mind, your song was kinda sorta hot doo-doo, but more so on the “sorta” side. . .
