Today’s video of the day comes from Angel Lola Luv, who is about to drop a rap album. Thoughts?

1:22 was all I could take. She’s cute but hot garbage as a rapper, she really needs to knock this off. Those first couple of bars sound like the same recipe anyone of these other incredibly lame male and female rappers talk create:

One part each of I got money, I got haters, I’m hot and you’re not, I drink expensive liquor, drive expensive cars, I think everybody is jealous of me. Throw it all together on a 100-110 bpm track, stir and repeat.

Hip hop isn’t dead but ingenuity is definitely on life support.

DC i agree, she’s cute, but she uglied herself up with this rhyme…and those fake cakes…and that gross tattoo on her neck…

i dunno, i’m not really feeling this chick at all.

She’s apparently some video chick but since I don’t watch videos anymore I couldn’t tell you which ones she’s been in. I just have heard her name and seen her pics in various mens mags but that’s it. Cosign wyltk; she is a perfect example of being pretty ugly, like a beautifully wrapped package of manure.

Damn! Lola so fine I don’t really care about the music. I was impatiently waiting for another shot of her backside the whole time. Guess I’m what’s wrong with my generation.

P.S. Sounds better than Solja Boy though.

This is typical, stereotypical low quality rap. I don’t know who can stand being with a friend who is always bragging about how much money or ice he/she has. Why this self aggrandizing rap is so popular I just don’t understand. No class at all.

Marc I’m sorry, but this is not a case of media misrepresentation. This is Angela Lola Luv’s reality for 4 minutes and 8 seconds on a timeless video. I don’t see “really sweet and nice” when I watch this video. She says she is the “Boss B*tch” and she promotes “hood rich.” This is not cute.

I feel you Bitter Brother, Lola is a bonafide knockout she’s just not a good rapper.

It would be nice if those qualities you speak of Marc could be seen in this video but media representations or misrepresentations aside this is her video, her words, this is the persona she’s choosing to give off. It’s just interesting that she chose this style for her first song and video to as her introduction to the public as a rapper. Lyrics like hers make me really miss L-Boogie and Eve and really appreciate a Jean Grae for going against the grain consistently.

Dr Hill,

Nothing about or even remotely associated with this woman’s brazen display of low self esteem is cute, sweet or redeemable. This woman is degrading herself, disgracing her family and giving other women a bad name. The men who are encouraging her to do this, see her as nothing more than an object to be used and abused for their own selfish ends. This is why I try to tell people that you cannot skip stages in education–each stage builds on the next. I guarantee you that this woman skipped pre-school because not a lick of creativity was demonstated here. This should not be encouraged and in fact, she should be shunned and made to feel ashamed of herself in hopes that she never pulls a stunt like this again. This, in my opinion, is ugliness to the bone!

I completely agree with absolutely every single thing you said!

It is so painful to see black women living/acting/being like her. And even more painful to see black men support/encourage/pseudo-praise her filth.

Her song is garbage. She is pretty (referring to certain areas of her body) but it said to see her do this rap thing. She should try doing movies just like any other woman who came through the modeling industry towards stardom. The rap thing is not gonna work. Even with lil wayne’s producers or even kanye’s beats, She’d still be trash (on the mic). This is why rap is messed up now. Nobodys that good anymore so they just put a beat on and run with it. So any bozo that has the money pays for the beat. Oh and Lola is from DC. So shes a bama. no class.

Seriously Frichy?? Wow. People like you kill me with your self righteous attitudes!! While I do agree this video by Lola shows a lack of creativity and a lack of talent. I do recognize that this is my opinion of her and not at all a fact… Maybe you need to realize the same. Hip hop is an art form.. If this is the way she wants to display her art than so be it.. You are not going to like every song/video that an artist creates, but to say such harsh words about someone you don’t even know is NOT cool.. In fact, your comment says a lot more about you, than this video says about her…

The more I think about this video, the more it saddens me. Angela is a pretty woman and I am sure talented at something, which makes it all so tragic. It’s apparent that at some point she began to think that she is only worth her body. It puts me in the mind of one of the girls in my sorority’s mentorship program who declared at orientation that she did not look up to anyone and that she had sex at an early age (as if it was cute). Her statements grieved me. This makes me want to work harder with my girls, so they too will know that they are more than their bodies.

Lovely209,

You can say what you want about my attitude, but it will not change the way I view the lady and her video. I make it a point of duty, every day, to conduct my business in a selfless manner in order that I don’t allow my problems to become problems for others. Again, in my opinion, Lovely209, it is women like her that corrupt our children in particular and society in general. I don’t believe that she nor anyone like her deserves tolerance for this type of behavior. I view it as offensive and destructive. She is merely a single individul among an entire society, which gives her little to no right to be a nusance and to act in such a vulgar way as to hold the image of decent women hostage. Women work hard everyday trying to prove themselves worthy of equality that they are constantly denied. This woman is not helping to uplift the image of women and for that reason I don’t owe her anything. She owes it to herself to either make a constructive contribution to society or make none at all.

Frichy,

You stated, “…it is women like her that corrupt our children in particular and society in general.”

I think this statement is a bit extensive and dramatic. I don’t think her video/”women like her” corrupt our children. It is our communication or lack thereof to our children about such videos/situations that endorses corruption. Please do not get me wrong, this video makes my job with my girls challenging. I have to combat this video and alike, but we cannot allow such individuals to rear our children.

Additionally, what about the men who finance, film, coordinator, and promote her video. Corruption of our children, based on your statement, is an equal opportunity employer.

I understand your anger, and maybe I was a bit harsh with my words… So let me explain. I think women like Lola need sympathy and love and not judgement and criticism. I think it’s so easy to point the finger and judge but it is a lot harder to extend a hand and to lend advice… That’s all I’m saying.. But Happy Holidays My Sistah…

JJG,

Not only do women like her corrupt our children, but they also promote domestic violence against women. This is because behavior like this devalues, demeans and cheapens women. This is not the type of person that you want children in their formative years to be exposed to. JJG, you are right, as parents we have a duty and reposibility to communicate and educate our children, but not all children are fortunate enough to have dedicated parents such as yourself to protect them against destructive elements within the culture. So it is up to each of us to do our best to make sure that our contributions have a positive impact on society. I said earlier that men who encourage, finance and promote these types of videos are selfish, greedy individuals who could care less about the negative impact this has on society. Their objective is to use women to gain a profit. Men definitely bare some blame here. But in MOST cases, men cannot do more to a woman than she lets him. So women are ultimately responsible for their own images and are best served by setting for themselves, the expectations and standards that they commit to live up to.

I’m confused, Beyonce does about the same thing as this young lady and no one vilifies her like you all have done with Angle. Angle is using her assets/talents to put her closer to her goals.
