Video of the Day

June 3, 2009 by Marc Lamont Hill

Today’s video of the day comes from University of Pennsylvania Professor John L. Jackson, one of the preeminent scholars in the country. In this video, he offers a brief introduction to anthropology, then breaks down his fascinating new project on Black Hebrews. Yes, I’m a Stan. But his work is dope!

This was good. I like the way he explained anthropology , very basic and concise.

That was very interesting. I’ve heard about black Hebrews before but I never knew there were different groups of Black Hebrews. I’d heard about different groups, like the one started in Miami by Yaweh Bin Yaweh (I’m not sure I spelled his name right), the black Hebrews in Israel who aren’t being given any rights in Israel even with many of them born there, and the Black Nazarenes that some people have converted too, but I never put them together under the umbrella “Black Hebrews.” I didn’t realize there was a connection. I thought they were all independent and in a way I just found out that they kind of are but with similar roots. Could the relationship between Black Israelites here and the Black Israelites in Isreal be compared to the relationship between Catholics and Protestants? How much of a difference is there in who they worship?
