Today’s video of the day is one of the greatest songs in hip-hop history. Whose verse is the best?

I always liked Common’s because he says “some days I take the bus home, just to touch home”. I was like, yeah, I take buses too.

Common wins, although seeing this video again reminds me of my love for Mos Def. He was the boo until he started having drama with his ex-wife. That totally messed up my fantasy.

This is the one song that I always use in defending hip-hop against neo-haters (those who think no good hip-hop has come out since the mid-90’s) and original haters (those who think hip-hop is not an art form). Even though I have an entire arsenal of quality hip-hop, this song alone can shut down their argument with the quickness.
I can’t choose My favorite verse cuz they all brought the pain on this one — all of them. However, I will say that My one gripe about the video was that Common’s part was shot in NY. Being a Common-er and Chicagoan, I thought that was kinda lame, but I understand Rawkus’ budget wasn’t swollen enough to do that for a video. Plus, both NY and the Chi (as well as many other cities around the US) suffer from the same issues. So I’ll let that slide, but I’m just sayin’ yo…
